WVFFC Holds Policy Proposal & Advocacy Workshop

On Thursday, May 15th, 2014, West Virginia Food & Farm Coalition Working Groups met in Summersville to learn how they can make legislative change in West Virginia. Stephen Smith, Executive Director of the WV Healthy Kids and Families Coalition, led the morning with a discussion on building a strategy for legislatie proposals as well as practical thoughts for speaking with legislators and media. After lunch, a panel was convened and facilitated by Stephanie Tyree, director of Policy & Engagement, which included:

Tootie Jones; Swift Level Farms and local foods advocate

Senator William Laird, Senate Majority Whip

Senator Ron Miller, Agriculture & Rural Development Committee Chair

Sam Petsonk; Miners Health & Safety Project, Mountain State Justice

Noelle Starek; Senate Staff Attorney
