State Policy Wins
As of February 2016, The West Virginia Food & Farm Coalition has successfully advocated for three legislative outcomes that will grow West Virginia’s local food economy:
- The on-farm processing exemption for poultry has been raised to 20,000 per year, with flock and slaughter sizes limited to 3,000 birds at a time (2014).
- The agriculture code that pertains to producer cooperatives has been expanded to include all businesses that relate to foods and beverages, arts and crafts, woodworking and recycling, composting and repurposing of materials (2015 SB352).
- Created a single statewide permitting process for farmers market vendors, improving and clarifying the permitting process for these vendors (2015 SB304)
